Our forests and wetlands need your help!
Kingston is seeing frequent clearcutting of urban forests for building mostly high-end, multistory condominiums. As climate change is devastating our planet, right now one of our last urban forests is going up before the Ontario Land Tribunal. Our city councillors voted against the plan but the developer is still trying to push through clearcutting 37 acres beside a sacred burial ground for the indigenous people of the area, including a 200-year-old oak tree, also sacred to the local indigenous community.
Now, the developer is challenging the decision at a tribunal. Please help us protect the trees and wetland.
Please help us prevent this destruction!
Wetlands are essential to fighting climate change and flooding, yet one developer wishes to get an MZO to cap a Provincially Significant Wetland. This will set a precedent for the rest of Ontario! We are organizing a legal defense to fight this development and future plans that remove our urban forests. We will need specialists like hydrogeologists, wetland biologists and ecotoxicologists, as well as legal representation to help fight these deforestation proposals.
The wetlands now.
The proposed development.
Kingston, like the rest of our planet, needs trees, wetlands and wildlife. We need your help to stop the developers from clearcutting and threatening Nature! Developers have big pockets.
We need your support! Please give generously!
