Press Release: Town of Bracebridge Orders Removal of NO MUSKOKA MEGA QUARRY Signs

OCTOBER 12, 2022 –

(Bracebridge, Ontario) Town of Bracebridge official Matthew Irving today ordered the removal of all NO MUSKOKA MEGA QUARRY signs “overhanging municipal property without municipal authorization.”

Project leader Laura Pratt responded to the Town’s edict by refusing to remove the signs. “This is a fundamental issue of political speech during an election campaign,” stated Ms. Pratt. She further noted that the Town of Bracebridge has been inundated with hundreds of election signs that violate the Town’s sign by-law, including those posted by appointed Mayor Maloney.

The order to remove the signs will further inflame debate at tonight’s Town Council Meeting, which considers a Final Vote on the Mega Quarry issue. The Muskoka Environmental Alliance has organized a public rally at 6:00PM tonight at the council chambers (1000 Taylor Court, Bracebridge) preceding the final vote at council.

No Muskoka Mega Quarry is a project of the Muskoka Environmental Alliance and Small Change Fund. You can donate towards this project here.
