New Project: Farms NOT Fridges

New Project: Farms NOT Fridges

OCTOBER 21, 2021 – Alongside our new partners, Jones Baseline Community, we are fighting to protect 27 acres of first-class farmland in Guelph/Eramosa, as well as the safety of the community’s drinking water. Though the land is currently zoned as “Agricultural,” a fridge manufacturing company has proposed building a new plant on the site.

The fight is not only to protect these 27 acres, but to prevent a precedent of rezoning agricultural land. As Wellington Water Watchers’ executive director Arlene Slocombe comments, “More than ever, it is a time when we need to be protecting green spaces; there are areas that are designated industrial use, that a facility like this can go.”
