South Bruce Community proposed DGR results in very closely split vote

(South Bruce, ON) – The close referendum result – 51% in favour and 49% opposed – can NOT be considered compelling evidence that the community is a willing host for the deep geological repository (DGR) proposed by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO). The difference of only 78 of 3130 votes, demonstrates the community is closely split.

“Without a definitive outcome, the responsible  decision for South Bruce Councillor’s on November 12th is to reject the proposal by the NWMO for a deep geological repository in South Bruce” said Bill Noll on behalf of Protect Our Waterways. “Almost half the people who voted in the referendum remain concerned about the long-term impacts on our community and environment” added Noll.

Mr. Noll concluded, “Protect Our Waterways (POW) expresses our appreciation for the strong community support and thanks all of the 3,130 people who turned out to vote and express their opinion.”
