Water for Life!

NOVEMBER 11, 2024  –

We are thrilled to share the news from our partners at Water Watchers that BlueTriton Brands will cease water bottling operations in Ontario by the end of January 2025! Water Watchers has been battling for water justice since 2007 and became partners with Small Change Fund in 2019 in their fight against Nestlé (who later sold to BlueTriton). 

While this is a significant victory there is still work to be done. In their own words, Water Watchers is calling for:

• A just transition for all current employees of BlueTriton.
• The return of well ownership to local, Indigenous-informed stewardship.
• Compensation for Six Nations of the Grand River for the extensive extraction without consent.
• The Province of Ontario to phase out permits for water bottling.
• Legal recognition of the human right to water in Canada.

Though there is still work to be done, today we are taking a moment to celebrate and congratulate everyone who has taken part in fighting for water justice in Canada!
