In her own words, Angela hasn’t always been a “transit nerd.” A longtime transit user, she began volunteering for Movement in January 2025 at the encouragement of her friends. What began with creating fun social media content for the Save the Bus campaign soon blossomed into a full blown organizer position – speaking at and coordinating events, providing fundraising support and conducting transit research.
One of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering for Angela has been seeing how meaningful Movement’s work is for the community. “A lot of people share their transit experiences with me when we first meet,” she said. “They also share ways to advocate for their needs and this really helps us build connections to the community.”

Angela encourages others to consider volunteering, citing mentorship opportunities, community-building and strong friendships.
And the icing on Angela’s volunteering cake?
“This experience came at a really critical time in my life, it’s why I decided to switch from computer science to urban planning. I found I have a lot of interest in transportation, youth civic engagement and housing – these issues are intersectional and Movement really addressed that.”
Transit nerd status achieved.
