Even the remote shores of Sable Island are polluted by plastic waste.
Plastic Free July is an opportunity to focus on reducing your plastic usage, as well as pick up great tips from others! Whether you opt for reusable shopping bags, paper straws or bamboo toothbrushes, every choice makes a difference. Throughout July we’ll be sharing some of our favourite plastic alternatives on our social media channels, plus our partners on the award-winning documentary Plastic People have put together a handy guide to help you take action against microplastics.
What might seem like just a small piece of plastic can have a giant impact. In fact, microplastics – microscopic toxic particles – are not just polluting the environment, they’re invading our bodies. Microplastics have been found in human blood and organs – even the placentas of expecting mothers.
We have long known that plastic pollution is a critical threat to wildlife and ecosystems. And now scientists have demonstrated that it has a direct impact on human health. The time is now to tackle plastic pollution. International Plastics Treaty negotiations resume in Geneva this August and it’s critical for the public to get involved in shifting the narrative and raising awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution. Join the global movement by taking the Plastic Free Pledge and encourage your family and friends to do the same!
