Through Your Crowdfunding Page
Your crowdfunding page is an easy way for folks to make one-time and monthly donations. Donors can choose to add a small amount (5%) to cover some credit card/transaction fees so that more money goes directly towards the project. They also have the option to dedicate their gift in honour or in memory of someone.
By Cheque
All cheques must be made out to Small Change Fund, with the project name included on the memo line. Please mail cheques to:
Small Change Fund
747 Manning Avenue
Suite 200
Toronto, ON
M6G 2W5
And please remind the donor to include their full name, email and mailing address for the tax receipt.
By Bank Draft
A bank draft is a pre-authorized cheque issued by the donor’s bank. This ensures the funds are in the account and that the cheque does not bounce. The same process applies as for standard cheques.
By e-transfer (electronic funds transfer)
e-transfers can be sent to info@smallchangefund.ca with the project name and the donor’s full name and address (including email address) noted. Please ask your donors to set the security question to “What is your favourite colour?” and use the Password: “green”. If the password differs, please email the password securely to your project lead with the accompanying donation details.
By EFT
An EFT, or electronic funds transfer, is a method of moving money from one bank account to another using electronic systems. This process includes various types of transactions such as direct deposits, wire transfers, and electronic cheques. If you have a donor who is interested in giving by EFT, please email Kim Bilous, our VP-Development, at kim@smallchangefund.ca for our bank deposit information.
Through Gifts of Securities or Mutual Funds
The most tax efficient way for folks to donate appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual funds is to donate these securities directly to Small Change Fund. We sell securities promptly via our professional investment advisor.
In most cases, capital gains taxes will not apply to gifts of appreciated securities donated to a registered charity. If the donor does not use all of the credits from this donation in one year, they can carry them forward to use within five years of the transaction.
If you have donors who are interested in learning about donating securities, please direct them to Kim Bilous, our VP-Development, at kim@smallchangefund.ca or 416 305 6776 for a friendly no-obligation chat.
The details and information needed to give a gift of securities are here – please feel free to review this with your donor, and they may wish to review with their financial advisor. If they are ready to donate now, they can complete our fillable form and send to Mark de Pencier at National Bank of Canada (his contact info is provided).
