Frequently Asked Questions
How do we make edits to our crowdfunding page?
You can make edits to your crowdfunding page, as well as preview changes, through your project dashboard. As a security feature, edits will be saved as a draft until your project lead has reviewed and published these changes. Please allow two business days for this process. During this time, your crowdfunding page will remain online with the previous content.
Can we change our project name/crowdfunding page title?
Please note that the project name should remain the same for the life of the project and should be consistent with what is reflected on all SCF documents associated with the project. Any edits will impact our accounting and governance processes. Please speak to your project lead if this is a concern.
Small Change Fund is a registered charity, what does that mean when working together on a joint project?
Donors receive charitable tax receipts for donations to our shared project; tax receipts are issued by Small Change Fund.
Project activities and communications must remain strictly nonpartisan – please refer to the Partisan Activity Guide for more information.
If ever in doubt, ask before publishing – partisan information linked to Small Change Fund could result in loss of our charitable status…it is that serious.
Small Change Fund manages all government reporting and tax receipt inquiries.
How should the partner reference Small Change Fund in messaging to supporters and the public?
Small Change Fund should be referenced as a “partner” on the project.
Small Change Fund should not be referenced as a “funder,” “sponsor” or “charitable trustee”.
Communications about the crowdfunding page should clearly reflect that funds raised are for the specific project, not general support for the organization.
How can we/should we use the Small Change Fund logo?
- The Small Change Fund logo must be on all outward-facing communications paid through project funds, as well as communications promoting an activity paid for through project funds (for example, a Facebook post promoting a rally)
- Before publication/distribution, you must provide Small Change Fund a sample of these materials for approval
- Partners cannot modify, edit or revise the Small Change Fund logo in any way – if you require a light/dark version for certain backgrounds, please ask your Project Lead
- Partners may include the Small Change Fund logo on their website throughout the duration of our partnership
- If using the Small Change Fund logo on your website, text should indicate that we are partners
- The logo should be hyperlinked to the Small Change Fund website (we recommend linking directly to your crowdfunding page)
- Do not include the Small Change Fund logo on your website if there is any partisan content present

What are the different donation types we see on the dashboard?
Within the donation history report available on the project dashboard, you might see a number of different transaction types:
- Pledge payment: Payments made toward the pledge are labeled as “Pledge Payments.”
- Recurring Payment: Payment made based on a monthly donation schedule. (Note: Paypal recurring donors are processed within paypal, and not directly in the Small Change Fund fundraising platform. Therefore, paypal recurring donations will reflect as ‘Donations’)
- Donation: A donation represents a financial gift made by a donor to support your campaign or project.
What else am I responsible for?
- Communicating to project supporters the nature of our partnership
- Carrying out the project activities described in our partnership agreement
- Conducting project communications and producing promotional materials
- Communicating with stakeholders and directing potential donors to the crowdfunding page
Where is the money for a project held?
Small Change Fund holds funds in trust for each project; these are used to pay project expenses.
How can we use the money we’ve raised?
Small Change Fund does not send funds directly to our partners.
All expenses must be invoiced directly to Small Change Fund, with a reference to the shared project, and include completed activity report and/or pertinent materials .
Partners receive monthly financial reports that detail the project’s income and expenses, as well as the remaining cash balance.
Please send all invoices and associated materials to accountspayable@smallchangefund.ca.
For more detailed information, refer to Small Change Fund’s Accounts Payable document and videos.
Good luck! We are keen to work with you to help your project succeed.
If you have further questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to your project lead.
