We are reimagining the former Ontario Reformatory lands in Guelph as a vibrant, inclusive green space where community and ecology thrive together. Alongside the old stone walls, native plants have returned and pollinators flourish. This historic site – rich with ecological, cultural, and social potential – is being transformed into a living classroom, a healing landscape, and a hub for community-powered environmental action. We envision people of all ages coming to learn, share, and steward the land.
Our goal is to create a replicable model of urban land stewardship, one that restores biodiversity, fosters reconciliation, and builds climate resilience – all while ensuring that youth, newcomers, and equity-deserving communities are at the heart of environmental leadership and learning.
But we can’t do this without you.
We are already working with Indigenous educators, local schools, scientists, artists, and dozens of community partners – and momentum is growing. Your donation will support year-round programming that invites the community to connect with the land and each other, as well as hire two essential staff members. Funds will also power our advocacy to ensure that the Ontario Reformatory lands remain protected as public greenspace—accessible to all and rooted in Indigenous reconciliation.
This land holds many layers: a rich pre-colonial history, a legacy of settler agriculture and incarceration, and now, a future built on restoration and relationship.
