Help us preserve the ecological integrity of the Forks of the Credit area in Caledon. A Brazilian conglomerate wants to develop a massive below the water table blasting quarry in the area. At roughly 2 square kilometres, this proposed quarry would negatively impact farmland, water resources, woodlands and the air. Your donation will help!

Northwest Caledon is more than just a place on a map—it’s home. Its rolling hills, forests, and farmland are part of our daily lives and the backdrop to so many of our memories. Nestled in the heart of Ontario’s Greenbelt, this landscape draws visitors who come seeking what we sometimes take for granted: quiet trails, fresh air, and the kind of natural beauty that restores the soul. We’re fortunate to spend all four seasons exploring the Forks of the Credit, the Bruce Trail, and the Niagara Escarpment, a World Biosphere Reserve.

The Credit River—known historically as the Missinnihe—winds through our community as well. It is a culturally and ecologically significant waterway, and this stretch of the river is one of the very few places in southern Ontario where Brook trout, a Species at Risk, can still thrive. Protecting it is part of protecting who we are.

That is why the proposed VC/CBM St Marys quarry feels so deeply alarming. If this project goes ahead, the company would blast below the water table and pump groundwater—our drinking water—into the Credit River every single day for the next 50 years or more. Over 50 acres of woodland, including an estimated 60,000 mature trees, would be cut down. Wetlands, riparian zones, and the wild habitats that sustain countless species would be irreversibly damaged.

This isn’t just about trees or water—it’s about the future of species already at risk: Brook trout, little brown myotis, chorus frogs, bobolinks, Eastern meadowlarks, red-headed woodpeckers, and more. Their survival is tied to the choices we make right now.

Our community has risen to the challenge. With your support, hundreds of “Say No” lawn signs now stand across Caledon and into the GTA. More than 1,300 objection letters have been sent to CBM/St Marys and the Ministry of Natural Resources. We’ve sat down with elected officials at every level—municipal, provincial, and federal—to ensure our voices are heard.

And your donations matter. They allow us to bring in leading experts in hydrogeology, natural heritage, air quality, land-use planning, and environmental law—professionals who can clearly and credibly explain why this quarry must not be approved.

Together, we are standing up for our land, our water, our wildlife, and our community’s future. Let’s keep going.
