The Niigaan maamwiying Healing Forest, at Paletta Park in Burlington, ON, is a place of healing, reflection, and acknowledgement of our shared treaty relationships and ongoing commitment to Reconciliation. Your support will help the Healing Forest thrive and allow its impact to grow.

In creating the Niigaan maamwiying Healing Forest (Moving forward together), we are honoured to join the National Healing Forest Initiative’s (NHFI) network of natural spaces dedicated to Truth and Reconciliation across Canada. In this spirit, and to honour our Treaty partners, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation (MCFN), we aim to build on the educational and reflective opportunities offered within the Healing Forest’s physical space and online platform. These opportunities will recognize and celebrate the relationship between our communities, offer learning activities for children, and encourage a commitment to positive change.

We need your help to continue to grow!

A space dedicated to Truth and Reconciliation sets an intention to:

  • Acknowledge the truth: Recognize the harms done to Indigenous Peoples, especially regarding the residential school system and colonization.
  • Honour Survivors and their families: Provide space for their stories and voices.
  • Promote healing: Foster emotional, cultural, and spiritual healing within communities.
  • Educate the public: Raise awareness and understanding among non-Indigenous community members.
  • Commit to Reconciliation: Inspire concrete steps toward equity, justice, and respectful relationships.

Your contributions will support:

  • Maintaining and updating the existing healing forest space and signage
  • Creating more educational and inspirational content for the Niigaan maamwiying Healing Forest YouTube channel
  • Educational events hosted by Knowledge Keepers on the land

Help us Keep the Healing Forest thriving!

This is a space where everyone is welcome. This forest provides a natural landscape for healing: as individuals, and as a community. Our intention is for this space to grow as a place for connection and learning. To do this we need to keep our signage in good condition, add teaching elements to the landscape, and keep our YouTube channel content current. Help us continue to build a lasting and vibrant space honouring Truth and Reconciliation in our community.
