We provide direct support to front line communities including Indigenous, Black, racialized, and/or economically marginalized people who are directly and disproportionately impacted by climate change and/or the systems and industries causing it.
Anishnabe climate justice scholar (and member of the EJRA Advisory Council) Deborah MacGregor often says that it really matters who is asking the research questions. Though there is climate research going on in universities, most of it is being led by relatively privileged folks, most of them disconnected from the lived realities of communities on the frontlines of these crises. Impacted communities know best what is going on and what needs to be researched.
EJRA offers robust support for communities to be able to lead their own research, on their own terms, towards their own transformative goals. We coordinate a large network of research volunteers from universities across Canada to work in solidarity with community-led projects.
Our volunteer teams support frontline communities to conduct literature reviews, environmental testing, investigative research, statistical analyses, field monitoring and other activities that challenge harmful industrial development and find solutions to ensure a safe, healthy and just future.
