About 2,000,000 seniors – 20% of all Canadian seniors – are concerned or very concerned about the climate emergency. They fear for their grandchildren’s future and for the wellbeing of the planet. This is a significant block of voters, consumers, and neighbours who can influence decisions about the speed and quality of climate action.
In 2025, the ‘Building A Climate Legacy’ project will partner with organizations that reach large networks of seniors to take action on climate. By partnering with other organizations who engage seniors, we will target a segment of the 2,000,000 seniors who are on the cusp of becoming active on climate, and offer opportunities for them to be part of the solution. So far, in pursuit of our 2025 goals, Building A Climate Legacy has:
- delivered an informative monthly climate newsletter to our network
- developed educational climate resources, such as trivia cards that can be read during meetings or other events
- written climate stories for our partners to share with their networks
- offered educational webinars on election platforms and gardening as a climate solution
- and, connected youth and seniors to meet and have intergenerational dialogues about the climate.
As we move forward, we need your help to make these partnerships and actions possible. Donations to the Building A Climate Legacy project will help us develop this project, and allow us to reach as many Canadian seniors as possible. Tax deductible charitable receipts are provided through Small Change Fund. ‘Building A Climate Legacy’ is a joint project of Small Change Fund and Climate Legacy.
